I want to clarify briefly the goals of the Apprentice of St. Joseph blog. These goals are to reflect on the role of St. Joseph in the Holy Family in order to help people, especially husbands and fathers, to discover how they can emulate St. Joseph in several main areas. St. Joseph, despite being the least holy member of the Holy Family (though still a saint, of course), was it's spiritual leader. Therefore, goal #1: to advance the cause of all authentic spirituality, especially those which emphasize masculinity and/or the role of a husband/father as spiritual leader of the family.
St. Joseph also taught his family, particularly Jesus Christ, Our Lord, the faith. Therefore, goal #2: to advance to cause of all authentic catechesis, especially those forms of catechesis which take place within the family and the home, which the Church calls "the domestic church."
Finally, St. Joseph cared materially for his family, providing and protecting Our Lord and Our Lady. Thus, we have goal #3: to advance the importance and practicality of the role of the father as the head of household and provider/protector of the family.
In short, although this blog may feature articles and reflections of any kind, the mission of the blog is to expand on spirituality, catechesis, and practical fatherhood, with St. Joseph as our inspiration.
Keep in mind that all these things will be written about through the eyes and experiences of only one person, so I would greatly appreciate comments, especially from other husbands and fathers, which could help in expressing other points of view on the topics at hand. I will post a weekly survey of the comments I have received and found interesting or fruitful.
His Servant and Yours,
Micah Murphy
